Gesner Las Casas Brito Filho has a BA in History from the University of São Paulo (2008), a Master’s in Social History from the University of São Paulo (2014) and a PhD in History of Art from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom (2018), sponsored by CAPES. His interests are Medieval History, acting mainly on the following themes: Anglo-Saxon England, Medieval manuscripts, Medieval art, literature, Old English, museology, archaeology, and sculpture .

His current research covers art, museology, manuscripts, sculpture, poetry, architecture, funerary practices and sculpture from Anglo-Saxon England. In addition, he is interested in the following themes: Gender, alterity, and recent appropriations of the Medieval (in authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien, Jorge Luis Borges, and others).

Gesner is a member of the Laboratory for the Study and Reproduction of Texts Related to the Thought and Culture of the Middle Ages at USP (LABORA-USP), the Brazilian Association of Medieval Studies (ABREM) and the National Association of University History Teachers (ANPUH) and from the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Britannia, Ireland and the Islands of the Northern Archipelago with studies referring to Antiquity and Medieval (INSULÆ).
