Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series is one of the biggest TV projects in development, and it’s also one of the most mysterious. The studio has been incredibly tight-lipped about their big budget adaptation, but we now have a broad description and, most importantly, a title: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The showrunners, relative newcomers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, clearly are comfortable setting the bar extremely high: ​“This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men,” the pair said in a press release.…
