Alastair Whyte holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Sydney on the subject of utopian intersections in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. His most recent work explores how the dystopian characteristics of Tolkien’s Númenor narratives represent the historical and thematic connections between imperialism and totalitarianism. He is currently working on the relationship between Tolkien’s representation of tyranny and the Arendtian concept of the banality of evil.
