Friedrichsen completed his MA at Aalborg University in Denmark in 2014, and in 2018 began work on his PhD which focuses on worldbuilding and atmospheres in speculative fiction and fantasy. He is interested in writers such as J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, Mervyn Peake, Haruki Murakami, and China Miéville. He has published articles on empathy, worldbuilding, and atmospheres in literature and is currently preparing his monograph for publication.
