We are the German Tolkien Society (“Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft e.V.”), a non-profit registered charity with over 900 members from ages 2 to 83, from all over Germany and well beyond! In our society we bring together different personalities and different ways of life, united in our love for Tolkien and his works. We consider it essential to our volunteer efforts to be part of the growing and flourishing Tolkien community and to create opportunities to meet up and talk about J.R.R. Tolkien who brought us all together. Yes, we do listen to lectures and do serious stuff – but we also sit down for a glass of wine, chat about the latest Middle-earth news or put our hands and minds to creating LARP costumes.
Our members’ bulletin Flammifer von Westernis does include summaries in English of all its content. Hither Shore is our bilingual interdisciplinary journal on modern fantasy literature and its accompanying academic conference the Tolkien Seminar is bilingual, too. As a member to the German Tolkien Society you will receive two issues of the Flammifer every year. You can find the application form here. We have regulars’ tables (“Stammtische”) all across Germany and you are most welcome to visit any of them; please contact them via email
You can follow us on Instagram; all of our posts there are in English and German!
