Jennifer’s precious 1^st-edition copy of the famous Geo. Allen & Unwin one-volume PB edition of The Lord of the Rings really was a birthday present — on turning 9. It is now a very battered PB, and seriously not a collector’s item. Her university education was at Oxford (Modern Languages) and Tübingen (Theology), but she is no scholar: just an enthusiastic Tolkien-reader.
