Verlyn Flieger

Positions

Verlyn Flieger, Professor Emerita in the University of Maryland’s Department of English, is the author of four critical books on the fiction of J.R.R. Tolkien, Splintered Light, A Question of Time, Interrupted Music, and Green Suns and Faërie, the last a collection of her published essays on Tolkien. She has edited a critical edition of Tolkien’s short work Smith of Wootton Major, and is co-editor of the critical edition of On Fairy-Stories, Tolkien’s seminal essay on myth and fantasy. She co-edited Tolkien’s Legendarium, a collection of essays on Tolkien’s world of Middle-earth. She is co-editor of Tolkien Studies, a yearly hardcover journal devoted to scholarly examination of Tolkien’s work.
